26,997. Grundel, J. Dec. 9. Plunger pumps; barrels and cylinders. - The central portion of the barrel of a double-acting plunger pump is constructed in such a manner as to form a stuffing-box which is readily accessible for repairs. The plunger e reciprocates within the cylinder b, which is removably attached to the upper pump-chamber a, and fits at its lower end into the gland ring c, with which a joint is made by means of the stuffing-box i and collar f. The lower end of the gland ring enters the stuffing-box h, which serves to separate the two pump-chambers a, d, and the packing, both in this stuffing-box and also in the stuffing-box i, is tightened by means of the nuts g', g<2> upon the same bolts g, Fig. 3. Upon removing these nuts, the ring c and collar f can readily be withdrawn for the insertion of fresh packing.
