26,954. Moffatt, A. C. Dec. 9. Lifts; overwinding, preventing. - Consists of means for operating the handing ropes of electric or belt driven lifts. On a short shaft, mounted in the wall of the cage, are two arms, one A inside the cage in the form of a handle, the other I outside the cage carrying two rollers F at each end. A rope R connected with the controller or belt-shifter as the case may be at one end of the well, has each end led over one roller and under another, and then anchored at the opposite end of the well. A movement of the handle A thus produces a corresponding movement of the controller &c. Rollers D on the ends of an additional arm I' may serve, by engagement with guides at the top and bottom of the well, to stop the cage at the limits of its travel.
