24,675. Watzlawik, F., and Hahn, S. Nov. 13. Jacquards. - The pattern cards act upon sets of auxiliary needles c, which are arranged to actuate the needles a operating the lifting hooks 20 according to the desired number of repeats of the pattern in the width of the cloth. Each warp thread is moved by a separate hook 20, which is drawn forward, by a needle a by means of pins 19, to be engaged and raised by a knife n on the griffe m. The needles a have notched ends resting on cross-bars b, e. The bars e are carried by levers k pivoted at i and connected by rods l to the hook grid 40, which is suspended on arms o, 14 pivoted at 12,13. To give a swinging motion to the levers k, a lever 3<a>, normally turning about a pivot 3, is vibrated by a curved piece 1 on the griffe acting on a roller 2, and a roller 7 acts on a lever 8 which with its roller 9 operates a lever 10, and through a connecting-rod p oscillates one of the arms o, 14. To allow the griffe to be raised without swinging the levers k, a stop-lever 6 is disengaged from a lever r pivoted at 5 and jointed at 3 to the lever 3<a>, so that the lever 3<a> turns about the point 5, and the roller 7 does not raise the lever 8. The machine is provided with several sets of needles c, the needles in the different sets being arranged to operate by means of projections f on different numbers of needles a. Thus, in the fifth set of needles c from the right of the Figure, each needle c operates upon two needles a, and there are two repeats of the pattern in the woven cloth. The needles c have narrowed ends 23 passing through a needle board g, which is raised by rotating cams h so as to lift the needles c, and raises the needles a from the bars e. The card roller 26 is then turned to bring a fresh card d under the needles c, and when the board g is lowered some of the needles c remain raised holding the corresponding needles a with their notches clear of the bars e. The points 23 of the other needles c pass through perforations in the cards and enter annular grooves in the roller 26, and the notches of the corresponding needles a are engaged by the bars e, so that when the levers k are swung outwards the corresponding hooks 20 are engaged by the knives n. The sets of needles c may be used separately as desired, or two or more sets may be used simultaneously. Thus, if rollers 26 and x are used, the cards of the roller 26 may control the shedding for the odd numbers of shoots, and the cards on the roller x the even numbers of shoots, and two overlapping patterns are woven on the cloth. Also one set of cards may produce the pattern and another the binding, or when the pattern is being produced by the cards on the roller x, a cylinder y acts on pivoted levers k<1>, which push the raised needles a and cause them to act on the corresponding hooks 20, to produce the binding. The bottom board 24 is formed with longitudinal slots through which the hooks 20 are inserted. After they are inserted, the hooks are turned at right-angles to rest on the edges of the slots.
