Abstract

23,905. Pirrie, J. B. Nov. 4. Spindle apparatus; building-motions.-Relates to the spinning-frame described in Specification No. 25,926, A.D. 1901, in which a traveller or eye, to conduct the yarn to the bobbin, is carried by a dragged ring free to rotate on a surface which revolves with the spindle. In the present improvements, each spindle is under independent control in running, stopping, traverse, and doffing so that regular cops may be spun irrespective of breakages. The spinning-spindle a is driven in the usual manner from the cylinder c, and trausmits motion by a band passing around a wharve a<3> to an auxiliary spindle b. Free to slide up and down this spindle is a wharve b<2>, supported by a builder d and driving a running ring e, also carried by the builder. An annular &c. reservoir d<1> containing oil in which the ring e revolves is fixed to the underside of the builder, the ring being centered therein by means of projections which bear on a flange formed on its lower edge. The builder d slides upon fixed rods d<3>, and is given the necessary traverse by chains f<2> secured to the usual rocking shaft f. This shaft carries three bosses ; each traverse chain f<2> is fastened to the builder plate d and to one or the other of two of these bosses, both of which latter are loose on the rocking shaft but receive motion therefrom through frictional contact with the third boss, which is feathered on the shaft and pressed against the adjacent boss by a spiral spring. The two loose bosses are connected by bolts in slots of sufficient length to allow of relative turning, so as to tighten the chains f<2>. This arrangement permits the position of the builder d, and its attachments, to be adjusted by the operator when piecing an end or the like on any spindle independently of the other spindles in the frame. The spindle a and its auxiliary spindle b may be stopped at any time by means of a brake a<6> operated by a counterbalanced pedal a<5>.
