Abstract
23,348. Tagg, W. G. Oct. 28. Sofas and couches ; bedsteads.-Relates to convertible couches or sofas and beds. The framing is made in two parts X, Y, the latter sliding within the former. The main part X is provided with upper and lower front and back rails a, a', b, b<1> and cross-bars c, c<1>, between which is a space for the back rail F and transverse bars d of the part Y. The rail F is provided with stops g. The front rail E of the part Y conceals the parts a, a<1> and the legs y conceal the legs x. Some or all of the bars d are provided with runners formed of metal strips fitted to slide over metal guides. The scroll or ornamental front J of the head frame K is attached to the rail E. The part of the frame K beneath the top roll K is made double, the two members l, l<1> being hinged together for extension ; the part rests against a support m on the scroll, and prevents return of the part Y. The cushion or mattress is made in two parts N, N' connected together. The part N is preferably thicker than the part N<1>, and is supported at the outer edge by a ledge e of the rail E.
