The knob or handle a, Fig. 1, has a stem A to which is rigidly secured a latch b to engage the piece e, Fig. 4. The part c turns loosely upon the stem A ; it is provided with screw holes for securing the fastening to the door, and is recessed to permit the motion of the latch b. The latch may be arranged to work between the back of the plate c and the door, or the plate c may be flat and the latch arranged to work in front of it.
