Abstract
21,133. Hill, F. Oct. 2. Wire ropes. - A rope or strand is constructed having a core consisting of a steel ribbon a which is twisted spirally about its own axis, other wires such as the triangular wires b being combined with it to form a round rope or strand. The spiral core gives a uniform continuous solid bearing for each individual wire required to make up the strand &c. A series of these strands may be twisted together round a core of hemp or other suitable material to form a rope as shown in Fig. 1. Ropes formed in this way are stated to be very durable, and to possess great tensile strength combined with flexibility.
