Brakes.-In a rim brake for the back wheel of a cycle, a bracket 8, secured on each of the stays 6, has an arm 9, to which is pivoted the lever 11 the lower end of which is connected to the usual bow-shaped strap 12. The brake shoes 13 are secured to the strap 12 ; this strap embraces the wheel and is attached to a screwed rod 16, to which is adjustably connected a cord, chain, or the like led from the usual brake-operating lever within reach of the rider. To hold the blocks off the wheel, a spiral or other spring 20, preferably enclosed in a tube 22, has one end secured to the link 11, and the other end to a pin 21 on the bracket 8.
