Abstract
118,724. Griffin, E. F. Oct. 22, 1917. Brake mechanism.-In a footoperated rear-wheel rim brake for cycles, adapted to be applied from either side of the machine, two similar foot-levers, one on each side of the cycle frame, are rigidly united at the foot-operated end by a cross-member, which may be a foot-plate, and are connected to the yoke bridge at points substantially in line with the yoke limbs. As shown, bell-crank levers G, pivoted at H to a clamp upon the lower end of the saddlepillar tube B, carry a foot-plate I disposed between the pillar tube and the mud-guard, the lower arms of the levers being connected to the bridge of the yoke E, which is normally held in inoperative position by springs F. The levers may be rigidly united by other means than the footplate and the upper ends of the levers curved outwardly for operation by the feet According to the Provisional Specification, at the front end the yoke is provided with a pivot, to which the operating-lever is attached, either directly or through a short link.
