17,843. Cartwright, J. J. Aug. 18. Cooking stoves and ranges.-Relates to fixed or portable cooking and warming apparatus. The firebox U, suspended from the hot-plate P, is constructed with perforated sides, back, and front, and has a removable perforated bottom G, as described in Specification No. 28,055, A.D. 1902. Air is supplied by a central perforated draught-tube D, actuated by an external lever, and having one or more cross projections so as to serve as a disturber. Projections, craters, or ridges may be formed on the sides and bottom of the firebox U, and on the tube D. One of the sides E of the firebox forms the back of the oven F, the sides and door of which are lined with tinned iron or enamelled plates carried by distance-pieces, so that air can circulate between the lining and the sides &c. The oven door is provided on the inside with meat hooks and a drip-tin L ; or the hooks may be attached to the roof of the oven. The door may be fitted with a transparent panel, and means may be provided for turning the meat &c. from the cutside. The inside of the oven door may be formed as a Dutch oven. A baking-oven Q is arranged on the other side of the firebox U, and a boiler may be fitted beneath the oven, suitable deflecting plates w being fitted in the flues surrounding the oven and boiler. A shoot K below the firebox directs the ashes into the pan I, and a damper T may be fitted below the firebox to regulate the supply of air to the fire. Existing cooking-ranges may be fitted with a suspended firebox U between the ovens, and back and side boilers may be provided if desired.
