Abstract
15,711. Bernsau, W., Uellenberg, P., and Uellenberg, A. July 16. Locks, key; catches, spring; latches.-Relates to door locks, the bolt being constructed and arranged to serve, when required, as a latch. In one arrangement, the bolt 5, Figs. 1 and 3, of square or circular section, is attached rigidly to the slide 1, which is operated by the key 3 and works in connection with the tumbler 4. When used as a latch fastening, the bolt 5 and slide 1 occupy the positions shown in Fig. 1 ; the outer end of the bolt then passes into an opening 10 in the staple, forces apart the spring-actuated slides 13, and is retained as shown in Fig. 3. By pulling the door, the fastening may be released. To lock the door, the bolt and slide are moved outwards until the bolt passes behind the part A of the staple. The inner ends of the slides 13 may be conical, rollers being then dispensed with. A catch 17 operated by means of a handle on the spindle 17<4> may be turned to engage the part 23 of the tumbler to prevent any motion of the slide 1. A spring 20 holds the catch in either the closed or the open position. In a modified form, shown in Fig. 10, the slides are replaced by pivoted spring levers 13<b> resting upon pins 24. The bolt is of circular section. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 12 and 14, only one slide 13<e> is used. The bolt 5<c> is pivoted to the slide 1<a>, and is normally pressed downwards by a spring 26.
