Abstract
13,694. Watson, H. S. June 19. Feed-pumps.-In a single-acting steam engine with working parts enclosed, a feed-pump 36 is carried by bolts 37, and has inlet and outlet passages 53 controlled by valves. The plunger 38 has a curved head 44, which is operated by a cam on the crank shaft. The plunger is pressed towards the crank shaft by a spring acting on a collar 42, and the length of the stroke is determined by the position of a sleeve 46, which comes in contact with the collar 42. The sleeve 46 screws on to a nipple on the casing 16, and is adjusted by bevel gearing, as shown, or otherwise.
