Counting - apparatus.- In a train of counting- wheels actuated from the lowest, where the unit of one wheel is not an aliquot part of the unit of the wheel of next higher order, any uncertainty as to the correct reading on the higher wheel is prevented by a shutter which is moved slightly by the train so as to display the required figure. Apparatus for giving the value-total of transactions each of 2<1>/4d. or some multiple thereof is described as applied to a cash register. Pence and shillings drums a, b, Fig. 5, and pounds drums c, c' mounted on the spindle d, Fig. 3, have suitable transferring means, and are driven by a pawl lever e actuated by the cash drawer or other part of the register, and gearing with a ratchet-wheel f on the pence drum. There are reading-apertures a', b<1>, c<2>, c<3> in a fixed plate g, of which the shillings aperture is longer than the others, and is covered by a plate h with normal-sized aperture h<1> carried by an arm h<2> pivoted at h<3> and controlled by the spring i. As the pence drum revolves, a pin or pins k upon it press aside a projection upon the arm, thus ensuring that the aperture is always over the correct figure on the shillings drum.
