Abstract

11,769. Barron, T. H., [Northrop Loom Co.]. May 23. Looms, forming selvages in; shedding - motions; stop-motions.-A selvage shedding-motion is constructed and arranged so as to cause the planes of the selvage shed to be in alignment with the planes of the main shed. The invention is described as applied to a loom wherein warp stop-motion detector-healds are employed, but is applicable generally. The selvage detector-healds, at each side of the loom, are suspended from lateral projections m<4>, n' on the inner surfaces of metal bars m, n, which are reciprocated vertically, and are guided by their reduced ends m<3>, n<3> passing through slots g', g<3> in a block g, mounted on the transverse separator A<10>, which serves as a backstop for a released detector in connection with the warp stop-motion. The upper ends of the bars m, n are yieldingly connected by means of a spring s<x>, and a band 35 passing over a pulley 36, and projections m<2>, n<2> on the bars are connected by bands m<x>, n<x> to opposite sides of a drum a<4>, the band m<x> being guided by a pulley 20. The drum a' is adjustably secured to a stud 8 adjustably fixed to a pivoted lever a', which is oscillated by a grooved cam c<2> on a shaft C', so that a shedding-motion is transmitted through the bands m<x>, n<x> to the selvage healds supported by the bars m, n. The band m<x> is connected to the drum a' nearer to the fulcrum of the lever a<1> than the band n<x>, so that the front selvage healds receive less motion than the back selvage healds, and such differential motion is adjusted by changing the position of the drum a' to bring the planes of the selvage shed into alignment with the planes of the main shed. The healds of the main shed may be similarly operated. A released selvage detector engages and arrests one of two vibrating feelers, and thereby stops the loom, in the same manner as a released detector of the main shed.
