Abstract

11,390. Hanson, B. M. W. May 19. Dividing - apparatus.-Relates to fluid-operated dividing-apparatus for lathes, and milling, planing, screwing, and other machinery. The Figures show the application to a milling-machine. The slide 2 is moved to and fro by any ordinary means and has mounted in it a swinging bead 4, Fig. 3, which can turn about the centres 5, and is fixed in any desired position by a screw 8. The spindle 6 is screwed at 7 to receive the chuck, and is rotated through bevel gear by the fluid-operated mechanism. The spindle 12 carries a dividing-wheel 11, which is rotated by the swinging-arm 22, and is locked by the pawl 13. The arm 22 is formed in one with a sleeve, the lower end of which carries a vane 25, Fig. 18, oscillating in a chamber 26, between a fixed abutment 30 and an adjustable abutment 31. The arm 22 carries a pawl 20, which can be engaged with the wheel 11, during the operative movement of the arm. When the slide reaches the end of its stroke in one direction, the valve 42, Fig. 4, is moved to the left, and fluid is admitted to the passage 43, and exhausted from the passage 44. Fluid is thus admitted to the left-hand end of the cylinder in the arm, and pushes the piston 21 to the right to disengage the pawl 20. This movement of the piston 21, admits fluid to the chamber 26, and moves the vane and arm 22 into the horizontal line 3-3, Fig. 1. As the slide moves in the opposite direction, the spring 46 reverses the valve, so that the pawl 20 is engaged, and the arm 22, moved back into the position shown in Fig. 1, carrying with it the wheel 11.
