The socket a, Fig. 7, is formed by placing a core in the tile, or by forcing a die or tool through it when in a plastic condition. The cylinder of clay so formed is cut into lengths and fitted, by means of a rammer and thimble, into one or both ends of the cylindrical hole a, thus forming the projection c, or the projection may be separately moulded and fixed to the tile.
