Abstract

5490. Tonkin, J. E., Ames, W., and Nicolle, W. E. H. March 9. Rail joints.-Fishplates for railway and tramway rails may be provided with folded ends to receive a straight gapped lock - plate which passes over the nuts, or the ends F, Fig. 6, of the lock-plate C may be folded over to engage the fishplate ends which are turned outwards. The lower ends of the folded parts are sprung outwards to fit corresponding offsets on the other plate to prevent the lock-plate from rising, or flat headed pins in the fish plate may enter gaps in each end of the lock-plate.
