Abstract

3967. Edmunds, J. M. Feb. 19. Cartridges and projectiles; primers.-The bullet a, Fig. 2, is formed integral with the shell b containing the powder charge, the primer being applied to a plug d which is held in the shell by friction but is readily detachable therefrom and remains in the breech after firing. In a modification, shown in Fig. 8, the bullet and shell are made of different materials and may be rigidly connected by screwing or otherwise. The projectile may be formed as a shell and fitted with a time-fuze v ; the case i is conical, and is forced gas-tight into the rifling of the gun. The plug may consist of a flanged disc, Fig. 5, the central part being recessed to contain the fulminate n, which is retained by a bridge.
