Abstract

1122. Bergmann, E. Jan. 16. Motor road vehicles.-In motor cars and the like driven through friction gearing, the pressure between the friction discs is varied according to the force transmitted, the pedal-lever which perates the gearing at the same time fixing the movable friction disc and applying the brake. Fig. 1 shows in elevation the arrangement for varying the pressure of the friction discs, Fig. 4 the means for controlling from the brake pedallever the friction discs, and Fig. 7 in plan the devices for shifting the friction wheel across the driving-disc. The disc a and the back wheels b are fitted to the ends of depending levers, the upper ends e, g of which are carried in the frame of the car. To prevent an accidental separation of the friction discs a, c, the pedal lever x is provided with the lever and arm t which engages teeth in the wheel s, the parts s, t being held together by a spring. On a depression of the pedal-lever, the arm t is disengaged and the lower part of the bellcrank lever shown brought into contact with a rod attached to the oscillatory axle of the disc a, with the result that the latter is removed from the driving-disc. On a continuation of the depression, a stiap brake is applied. To shift the disc a across its driver, the arm n to which the disc is secured is moved along the axle d through a rotation of a spindle l, on the end of which is the wheel p with chain r and wheel q.
