Abstract
610. Arundel, H. B., and Higginson, J. Jan. 9. Winding-machines; yarns and threads, gassing. -In a winding, doubling, or gassing machine, or the hke, the thread c is guided to the cheese b, which is rotated by frictional contact with the drum a, by a guide d, pivoted at e to a bracket p, which is carried by reciprocating wires g. The lower end f of the guide d is pressed against the periphery of the cheese by a spring m, or by a weight. The cheese is mounted on a spindle at the end of a rocking lever, and, as it increases in diameter, its centre moves in the line k-k, so that the end f of the guide keeps in contact with the cheese without requiring to move appreciably. The motion of the guide d is limited by a stop o, so that the thread leaves the guide when knocking-off occurs. The spindle of the cheese may be mounted on a lever, the lower end of which is guided by a cam or inclined plane.
