Abstract

28,367. Allday, W., and Allday, E., [Hosken, W.]. Dec. 23. Centrifugal pumps.-Consists in devices for taking up the wear of the propeller and sides of the casing. Fig. 1 shows a sectional side elevation, and Fig. 2 an end view of the pump. The pump casing is made in three parts, a ring part d and delivery pipe d<2> and two side parts e, e<1>, the part e<1> being in one with the suction pipe. The inner faces of the side parts -are provided with adjustable and renewable rings f, made preferably of manganese steel. Each of these rings is provided with equidistant inclines f which bear against corresponding inclines on the inner faces of the sides e, e', as shown in Fig. 5. These rings are also provided with screw pins and nuts f<3> by which they are secured to the sides e, e', the pins passing through slots in these sides. To make a close fit with the sides of the propeller a, these nuts are loosened, and, by means of a double spanner h, the plates are rotated as required and the nuts again screwed up after the adjustment. Owing to the construction of the casing. the suction and delivery pipes are capable of angular adjustments, and the sides e, e<1> may be interchanged. The bridge k and the acting curved part k', which receives the impact of the water as it enters pipe d<2>, are made separate from the case of the pump, and are adjustable and renewable, as shown in the sectional view, Fig. 7. Figs. 3 and 4 show the method of lubricating the bearings. A hollow ring m with holes on the inner surface dips into an oil bath c' and is rotated by resting on the revolving journal, thus carrying the oil on to the bearings.
