Abstract

26,584. Bentley, W. Dec. 2. Motor road vehicles.-As shown in plan in Fig. 1, the front steering-axle is divided into two parts b, each capable of turning about a vertical pivot c and supported at the inner ends on guides d carried by the vehicle. The axles are adjusted by a lever f, which may be operated either directly or through gearing. Accompanying this steering-gear, there may be means for unclutching the rear wheel on the inside of the curve automatically when the front steering - wheels are deflected. For this purpose, rods o, o are connected to the ends of the lever f, which rods have at their hinder ends, as shown in Fig. 3, forks with cam-shaped projections p capable of acting on the clutch levers n pivoted at u, as shown in Fig. 2. Whenever the lever f is turned to a sufficient extent, the rear road-wheel on one side is thus released, the other being unaffected. The unclutching-device may also be used with an ordinary fore-carriage.
