Ticket punches.-Upon inserting a ticket in the slot e, the pin e<2> is depressed, and the end of the lever G is lowered until the nose g<1> is clear of the punch-guide E, so that the punch B may be pressed forward by the thumb-lever C to punch the ticket. As the lever G is carried forwards with the punch B, the projection g<4> moves forwards by one tooth the ratchet H' of the train of wheels H<2>, H<3>, H' for indicating the number of tickets sold, and the consequent movement of the detent K actuates the hammer L of the bell signal The ticket stampings fall between the plates M, M' into a receptacle, which may be readily attached to the body of the punch. Should the punch be moved sufficiently far forwards to punch a ticket but not to affect the indicator, the nose g<2> of the lever G, on the return movement of the parts B, G, abuts against the stop g<3> and locks the punch, so as to block up the lower part of the slot e. When a ticket is again inserted in the slot e and the thumb-lever C is depressed, the indicating- mechanism completes its movement without punching the ticket. The car conductor must then punch the second ticket correctly, whereupon the indicator records the two tickets. A detent K prevents the toothed wheels from being moved forwards to record more than one ticket at a time.
