Abstract

20,647. Siemens Bros. & Co., [Siemens & Halske Akt.-Ges.]. Sept. 22. Resistances, inductive. In choking coils and like apparatus having iron frames built up of separate pieces, the contact surfaces of these pieces are forced together by pressure applied directly to them. In one construction, the two sets of laminµ constituting each core a, Figs. 2 and 3, are separated by a tie-bar c, which is riveted to them by rivets f and passes through the similar sets of laminµ constituting the yokes b. Clamping- pieces d, used to force the contact surfaces of the cores and yokes together and to prevent the laminµ of the yokes b from spreading, are pressed down by nuts e on the screwed ends of the bars c. The laminµ may be divided into more than two sets, and more than one bar c may be placed between adjacent sets. When the yokes b are fixed against the sides of the cores a as shown in Figs. 7 and 8, some of the central laminµ of each may be shortened to form overlapping grooves h through which tie-bolts c may pass. Clamps d and nuts e are used in this case as shown to draw the parts together. The tie-bars c, Figs. 2 and 3, may other- wise be riveted to the outside of the cores a, one on each side of each core, and bent over at both ends to engage with the hooked ends of the clamping-pieces d. Screw bolts passing through the pieces d and bearing against plates placed under the pieces d then force the cores and yokes together. In some cases, also, the tie-bar c may be placed between the two end cores a equidistant from each, pressure being transmitted to the centre line of each core by means of a bent blade spring or, according to the Provisional Specification, a bridge- piece forced down by a nut on the tie-bar. The bottom clamping-pieces d may be arranged as feet or supports, and the cores may take the place of the yokes in the above description. In the case in which the tie-bars are riveted to the outside of the cores, the yokes and cores may, according to the Provisional Specification, be drawn together by clamping-pieces and nuts on the straight screwed ends of the tie-bars.
