Bicycles; frames; brakes; steering-mechanism ; handle-bars; saddles and seats.-The frame comprises a head connected by a tube 1<a>, Fig. 1, to the bottom bracket 4, and by a tube 13 to a tube 10 which connects the bracket 4 with a lug 11 attached to forks 12 connected by forks 2 and members 1 to the bottom bracket. The seat 21 is fitted with a back-rest 22, supported by a spring 28, the lower end of which is adjustably secured on a spring 24 pivoted to the lug 11 and connected by a link 23 to the rear of the seat. The seat is pivoted in front to a bar 20, formed on a pin 19 which is adjustably secured within a tube 14 carried by the lug 11. The handle-bars 17 are secured to an axle mounted in a head 16 secured by tubes 16<a>, 18 to the frame, the axle being fitted with an arm 30 which actuates a chain passing over guide-pulleys 31 on the tube 10 and connected to cords a passed under pulleys 32 on the frame, and secured to a chain passed round a pulley 9 secured to the steering-post. The brake mechanism comprises a foot-lever 33 pivoted to a clip 34 on the tube 13 and connected by a link to a bell-crank lever 39, secured by a rod 40 to a stirrup 42 secured by bolts 43, Figs. 5, 6, and 7, to angle-plates 44 carrying brake shoes 46 and pivoted to clamps 45 on the chain stays. Bolts 48 connect the plates 44 to slots, formed in plates 49 connected by bolts &c. 58 to links 59 pivoted on the clips 45. One of the plates 49 is formed with teeth 50, which engage the lower part of the chain when it is tightened by back-pedalling, thus applying the brake. A spring 41, Fig. 1, draws the brake out of action.
