Locks, key; latches.-Relates to locks and latches, especially such as are described in Specifications No. 24,406, A.D. 1897, and No. 3127, A.D. 1900, in which the keyhole can be shifted to adapt it to the position of the keyhole in the door &c. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the lock bolt h is mounted to slide on a pin v attached to the casing a, such pin acting as the pivot for the tumbler d. The bridge-piece c, in which is formed the keyhole, is adapted to slide within the casing, and an adjustable block j is fitted to the bolt h for the engagement of the key. The adjustable cover plate is supported upon projections q on the casing instead of on the mechanism, and is provided with slots and openings for the passage of the key and the fixing-screws and for allowing access to the screw a of the block j. A spike or stud on the cover plate enters the door to retain the plate. The latch bolt l is pivoted to a lever m, operated by a follower o. In the lever night-latch shown in Fig. 3, the bolt has an extension A connected thereto by means of a pin E adjustably secured in a hole in the lug F of the bolt by means of a screw H. A spring G is interposed between the part A and the lug F. The plate C carrying the key pin C<1> and levers B is adjustable. The adjustable cover plate rests on the casing projections L and is secured thereto by screws passing through slots in the plate. In double-handed night-latches with two keyholes, the key pins are mounted on sliding plates, and the cover plate is adjustably mounted on lugs on the casing. A pin, secured to the casing by a chain, may be inserted behind a lug on the bolt for preventing the operation of the latch.
