8938. Soutter, L. H., [Soutter, A.]. April 17. Stoppers; refilling, preventing.-Relates to bottles or other vessels for containing wine, spirits, or other proprietary liquids. The neck of the bottle &c. is formed with an internal seat c for the conical valve d, and above the seat with an annular ridge or indentations f, adapted to prevent the valve from being withdrawn or tampered with. The vessel is filled through an aperture g in the side or bottom, which is subsequently closed by a cork or stopper h, and a plug j having grooves engaging with projections l on the vessel, the plug being then covered by a suitable seal. The mouth of the vessel is normally closed by a cork or stopper b, which preferably bears on the valve to keep it seated. When the stopper b is withdrawn, the contents can be poured out, but the valve prevents the reintroduction of liquid. The upper edge of the valve may be notched to facilitate the outflow of the liquid, or it may be formed with a fluted crown n, Fig. 5.
