Abstract
3471. Baker, J. A. Feb. 11. Racquets.-The string or gut &c. is laced on both sides of the frame, so as to cover it and prevent the ball from striking directly upon the frame. Fig. 1 shows one arrangement. A number of small holes 2 are drilled through the frame, and the string 3 is threaded through. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, the frame is bevelled and notches are formed for retaining the string ; a strip of leather or the like may be cemented on to cover the grooves &c. In Fig. 3, the frame is shown grooved longitudinally, with a string 8, to which the cross-pieces are secured, fitted therein. Studs may be employed in connection with the holes or notches, to secure the strings.
