Abstract
390. Radovanovic, A. Jan. 6. Plunger pumps,. valve gear; concussion, preventing.-Relates to means for closing the suction valves of plunger pumps in order to prevent hammering. Near the end of the suction stroke a head k on the plunger enters a part c of the pump chamber of but slightly-greater diameter, the part c separating the suction-valve chamber m from the main part n of the pump chamber. The pressure thus produced in the chamber m closes the suction valves. The pressure produced in the chamber m, instead of acting directly on the valve s, may act on a piston a<1> connected therewith, Fig. 5. The plunger, or the chamber m, may be fitted with a safety-valve, and the chamber n with a relief valve. The piston a' may act on the valve s through a spring ; or it may be fitted with a stop, either elastic or rigid, so that it cannot quite close the suction valve. The axis of the suction valve may be parallel with or in line with the plunger instead of as shown.
