Abstract

25,887. Mayhew, A. H. Dec. 18. Elevated, electric, &c. railways; permanent way; railways, systems of.-Three or more wires, cables, or ropes a are secured on posts &c. b, or to brackets in a tunnel. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, five' cables are used. The vehicle body is built into frames e provided with wheels for running on the ropes. Hinged rails or platforms f are attached to the supports, so that the vehicles may pass them more easily. Loose ropes k are attached to the bearing-ropes a to support them in case of breakage. On curves, fixed rails replace the ropes. The top cable or other wires may supply current for electric traction.
