Abstract

22,852. F³llner, E. Nov. 12. Adding fibrous material prior to filtering; travelling-band filters ; cleansing.-A layer of fibrous filtering-material is deposited from suspension in a liquid on an endless strainer carried round an open-ended drum mounted to revolve in a tank. The liquid to be filtered is supplied to the tank, and filters into the interior of the drum and to an outlet, and the used-up filtering-material is removed from the strainer by a scraper situated outside the liquid in the tank. The fibrous material, which may be paper pulp, cellulose, &c., may be deposited on the strainer before the liquid to be filtered is admitted to the tank, or it may be suspended in this liquid ; or the filtering-material may be in the form of a paper band. Fig. 2 shows the apparatus used in the last case. The drum comprises packed end rings connected by bars d supporting the strainer e. The paper band passes from a roll p over a guide-roller m, and is removed from the strainer by a scraper roller n.
