Abstract

Berths.-T o en a b l e bunks to be quickly erected between the decks of military transports and other ships, the tubular iron standards a, to which the cross-frames g for supporting the beds are attached, are provided with spiked shoes b, and are closed at their upper ends by nuts c, which are so mounted on the standards as to be capable of raising or lowering screw bolts d to bring the spiked or pronged heads e into or out of engagement with the deck f. Fig. 1 shows a spiked head for use with an iron deck, and Fig. 2 a pronged hea 1 for use with a wooden deck.
