Abstract

115,716. Benham, A., and Smith, T. F. June 12, 1917. Sleepers, metal. - Sleepers are formed from expanded metal which is cut with rows of parallel slots b the alternate slots being joined by oblique slots c as shown in Fig. 1. When expanded, the form produced is shown in Fig. 5, in which e represents upper platforms, d, d side lower platforms, and d<1> a central lower platform. The whole is held rigid by top plates g and base-plates j. Wooden blocks may be placed under the plates g, upon which the rail chairs are situated. Vertical bolts secure the whole together. The end portions l of the plates j are bent up and secured to the upper platforms.
