Abstract

19,205. Forster, J. B. Sept. 26. Driving - mechanism; frames; treadle - levers.- Relates to treadle-driving gear for cycles. In the bicycle shown, each side of the cycle is fitted with a lever b pivoted at c to the forks d, carrying a treadle e having a toe clip j, and formed at its rear end with a toothed sector f gearing with a toothed wheel g mounted on a free-wheel clutch on the driving-hub h. The treadles may be raised either by the weight of the sectors f or by springs p con- necting the levers to the frame. The downward motion of the treadles is limited by the sectors engaging either with the rear-wheel axle or with fixed stops secured to the forks. The frame may be modified, the members a, d being arranged more nearly in a straight line, and the saddle post may be replaced by tubes connecting the seat lug to the pivots c as shown by dotted lines.
