Locks, key.-A door lock is constructed so that it may be fitted to a right or left hand door, the pivot hole for the key always being at the top of the keyhole. Fig. 1 shows a lock as fitted to a right-hand door, and Fig. 2 shows the lock fitted to a left-hand door. The bolt A is formed with an orifice bounded by curved or inclined surfaces, two of which A', A<2> are acted upon by the key B when the lock is used for a right-hand door, and the other two A<3>, A<4> are acted upon when the lock is applied to a left-hand door.* The keyhole E is formed with a pivot-hole E<1> at each end, so that a pivot-hole is always at the top ; or ordinary keyholes may be formed in removable plates, which are reversed on changing the lock from a right to a left hand door, or vice versÔ. Ordinary lock mechanism may be used. In the mechanism shown, a stop F<1> on a lever F, which is operated by the key, is adapted to engage on either side of a stop A' on the bolt, to retain the bolt in the shot or retracted position.
