Abstract
18,066. Lowe, T. Sept. 10. Smoke-consuming.-A number of nozzles A, each formed of a coiled bar as shown in Fig. 3, or a perforated tube as shown in Fig. 7, project from an arched air chamber B above the fire-hole, so as to form a screen or baffle, or from an air chamber in the fire-door, or from both as shown in Fig. 2. The air chamber B may be prolonged on both sides of the fire-hole to chambers below the deadplate to which air is admitted by slides, as shown in Fig. 2, or openings may be made leading direct into the chamber B. In the case of a locomotive firebox, the nozzles may be fitted in an ordinary baffle-plate J, Fig. 6.
