Lighting gas.-The deterioration of catalytic igniting - pellets by the heated products of combustion is minimized by mounting between the pellet and the burner a plate d, which either is smaller than the pellet support c, or has lateral orifices e for the passage of gas. In Fig. 1, the plate d and the support c are shown mounted upon a frame a, which fits upon the top of the chimney, and has large lateral openings b for the escape of the products of combustion.
