Abstract
12,773. Batlle, J., and Bueno, J. June 22. Energy meters.-A commutator motor meter has a long drum armature u, having eleven coils forming two paths, with brushes c at 90‹ apart, to act as a four-pole armature in the fields produced by two rectangular main current coils g, the sides of which are placed symmetrically about the armature, as shown in horizontal section in Fig. 4. The brushes are connected in series with a german silver resistance R between the supply mains ; the main object of the invention is to reduce the loss of energy in this circuit. No iron is used in the magnetic circuits. The resistance R is arranged to produce an auxiliary field compensating for friction. The brushes and commutator are of silver. The commutator segments are attached by hot shellac and threads to a hard fibre tube ; this and two ebonite discs carrying the armature windings are placed on a copper tube, which is secured on a steel spindle. Rotation of the spindle is retarded by a copper disc moving in the field of a permanent magnet. The spindle is connected through two worm gears to a counter in which parallel number discs are connected by spur gearing. The spindle rests in a sapphire bearing, or can be held up by a screw when the meter is moved. The field coils are carried by brass holders i ; these and other parts of the meter are mounted on a frame j, made of aluminium alloyed with 10 per cent. of copper, and provided with a zinc cover and an outer lower cover, which is secured by a nut and a seal.
