Abstract

9279. McCullough, P., Blaney, T., and Baron, R. May 4. Electric railways and tramways with overhead conductors. Collectors.-The trolley pole b is pivoted at e to the head d, which swivels on the upper and lower ball bearings on the fixed cap f of the standard. A spring u surrounds the lower end of the pole, and a collar v bearing on it is connected by the pivoted links w to the head d. With this arrangement the tension is greatest and fairly constant at the working position of the pole. The head may be angularly shaped to prevent the pole from rising above this position. To permit swivelling in any direction, the conductor down the pole is connected to a rod k passing through an insulating- sleeve i in the head and attached to a plate m, which can turn on the fixed plate o, but is held in electric connection therewith by the bolt r and ball bearings. The plate o is supported on the insulating-plate p, and is connected to the motors.
