Abstract

8427. Millward, F. April 24. Corpses, cremating.-Air inlets bare provided above the furnace doors c, so that a current of air mixes with the hot gases entering the combustion chamber a. Two or more short air tubes b<x> are formed integral with the removable front firebars, so as to project into the fuel. A nozzle r is fixed at each side of the furnace for the purpose of spraying water on the firebars, so as to keep them cool and at the same time generate gas from the steam produced. The hot gases pass by side flues f, j into the cremation chambers m, e. Downtake flues g convey the gass to the chimney. The body to be cremated rests on a grating g, of which the bars taper downwardly and are rounded above. The final cremation takes place in the lower chamber e, from which the ashes are removed by an asbestos brush through the shoot p to the urn t. Air-heating flues u, or water tanks, at each side of the furnace enable the mortuary chamber or chapel to be warmed by waste heat from the furnace.
