Cutting-machines for paper, leather, cloth, &c.- Relates to presses for cutting-out blanks for labels, envelopes, the soles, tops, lifts, stiffeners, and other parts of boots and shoes &c. The knife 7 is provided with flanges or projections by which it is held in a grooved holder 23, being retained therein by a pair of catches 48. The knife-holder, and the plunger 5 with its buffer 6, are normally held in the raised position by springs 28, 51, 52. The knife-holder may be depressed, to facilitate the adjustment of the material on the table, by cam levers 36 operated by a pedal. The same pedal is connected with the rod 15 and levers 14, 11 for moving the eccentric-rod 4 over the shallow or deep depression in the upper end of the plunger 5, according to whether or not it is desired that the plunger shall be operated. Normally the rod 4 is drawn by a spring 19 over the deep depression, so that the plunger is not actuated. The parts are so adjusted that the first effect of operating the pedal lowers the knife-holder on to the material 8 to be cut, so that the latter can be properly adjusted, and then the further movement of the pedal brings the eccentric-rod 4 over the shallow depression 10 in the end of the plunger 5, so that the latter is forced downwards through the material 8 ; 46 are guides between the knife-holder 23 and the buffer 6. The knife may be carried by the buffer 6, in which case the pedal mechanism is caused first to lower the buffer with its knife on to the material to be cut, and then to operate the eccentric-rod 4.
