Abstract

4305. Derbyshire, R. W. Feb. 28. Tide mills.-A moored raft or barge A, which is placed in the tideway, has a central channel B to receive an undershot wheel C. The buckets or vanes b are pivoted between rings D, D<1>, connected by cross-bars, and bed upon the periphery of the wheel F. The ring D is slotted, and may be operated from the axle G by means of links to adjust the angle at which the vanes are set. Instead of the links, a screw J, working in a head H attached to the ring D and engaging a nut K secured to the wheel F, may be operated by a hand-wheel to adjust the vanes. Two or more wheels may be arranged within the channel. The motion of the wheel or wheels is transmitted to one or more dynamos.
