Abstract

4282. Akt.-Ges. vorm. J. J. Rieter et Cie. Nov. 12, A.D. 1900, [date applied for under Sec. 103 of Patents &c. Act, A.D. 1883]. Winding-machines. - Relates to cross-winding machines. Each spindle n is carried by a hollow lever k, which carries wheels o, p, through which the spindle is driven from the loose half l of a clutch usually held in gear with the fixed half i by a spring. The spindle, or the yarn thereon, rests upon a thread-guide 4, all the thread-guides being carried by a longitudinal rod or wire 5, which is reciprocated longitudinally by helical cams at each end thereof. As the wound yarn increases in diameter, the lever k turns upon the shaft e until a projection q thereon operates a catch lever r, and thereby releases a couple of levers t, u, when the lower curved end of the lever t rises and raises the thread out of the notch of the thread-guide 4, while the lever u, which is pivoted to the lever k above the shift e, operates a lever w and disengages the driving-clutch l, i. The levars z, x, connected by the link y, are for partially balancing the weight of the lever k. In order to regulate the speed of the traverse cam with regard to that of the spindles for winding different counts of yarn, the cam is driven through toothed gearing and a pair of cone drums, on which the strap may be adjusted as desired. On its way to the winding-spindle, the thread passes between a pair of friction discs, which are pressed together by a weighted lever 19 mounted on the end of the lever x and acting on the disc through the bent lever 20. By this arrangement, the tension on the yarn is automatically regulated as the winding proceeds.
