Abstract

3595. Pittler, W. von. Feb. 19. Oscitlating-vane type. - An engine having a curved piston working in an annular chamber and adapted for use as a gas engine, as a combined gas and steam engine, or as a pump is shown in Fig. 1. The curved piston d rocks on a shaft i within an annular chamber a, having cooling ribs and divided by a partition b into two working compartments. The piston is connected to a crank n on a driving- shaft which operates suitably-arranged valves. The piston ends are fitted with an expansion ring 4, Fig. 6, and with two split packing-rings 1, 2, secured by a cap 14 having apertures 3 to admit the pressure fluid. A modification adapted for use with gas and steam has two partitions b, Fig. 12, and four working chambers arranged alternately for gas and steam. The partitions are ribbed to transfer heat from the explosion side to the steam.
