Abstract

2651. Schrader, J. C. Feb. 7. Blasting-cartridges.-Relates to extrusion machines for moulding explosive gelatine. The gelatine is received in the hopper K, where it is pressed down by the blades l on the revolving shaft L, any rotation of the gelatine being prevented by the ribs k<1> on the hopper. The gelatine passes from the hopper K to the wooden block E, in which a screw F rotates and forces the material out through the nozzle G, after which it is cut into lengths, and rolled up in waterproof paper. Water for cooling is made to circulate through jackets formed on the nozzle G and hopper K. The shaft L is free to move longitudinally, and is pressed down to its work by the weights M. The screw F is connected to the hollow shaft B by a feather f<1>, and is held in position by a plate i, shown separately in Fig. 5, and by a bearing-plate h. The machine is driven from a pulley C, which is connected at will to a friction clutch D on the shaft B, and the shaft L is rotated through the pulleys o, o'.
