2403. Casler, P. W. Feb. 4. Bookcases.- Relates to bookcases made up of two or more sections which can be placed one on another. The top of each section is open, and has at the back projecting parts C<1>, to engage a corresponding part on the lower back part of the section next above it, and at the front U-shaped metal pieces E, with which engage the lower front parts of the sides of the section above it as shown in Fig. 3. The door F is hung by hooks G on the front parts H<1> of the guides H ; on turning the door to the horizontal, spring arms F', which pass through eyes F' on the front and are in tension when the door is vertical, cause the door to slide inwards ; the arms F<1> then occupy the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3. To prevent the bottom A from sagging, a truss I bent downwards at the centre is used ; by tightening the nuts J<1> by means of a spanner, which can be inserted into apertures K, the central part of the truss is raised, and, acting on the projection J, raises the central part of the shelf.
