Abstract

504. Harris, H. B., and Yelland, R. Jan. 8. Tyres, pneumatic.-The air tube A has the treadhalf of its internal surface solutioned or vulcanized to an interior auxiliary air tube a. Normally the tyre is inflated through the valve C, Fig. 4, from which the air passes along a channel F formed between the air tube A and a solutioned rubber strip E, and thence through the hole G into the air tube a. In case of puncture the tyre is inflated through a second valve D, Fig. 5, the air from which forces the loose part a<2> of the air tube a against the tread of the tyre, and so forms an inflatable chamber.
