22,326. Johnson, G. W., [Weissenthanner, A. L.]. Dec. 7. Stoppers.-Relates to closures for bottles, jars, cans, &c. containing sparkling beverages &c. The closure, Fig. 3, consists of a cap A, formed with a tongue b and provided with suitable packing d, and a metal band C, which is bent at the edges over the cap A and under the rim of the vessel. The band is secured by its tongues c<2>, which are passed outwardly or inwardly through an aperture or apertures b<1> in the tongue b and then bent backwards, as shown. Both the band and the cap are released and removed by the single operation of pulling the tongue b. In the modification shown in Fig. 7, the band F is formed with teeth f, which interlock with the teeth e<1> on the tongue e of the cap. Further modifications in the method of engaging the band with the tongue of the cap are described, in some of which the tongue is formed of wire. In the form shown in Fig. 16, the wire tongue q<1> is twisted and secured at the ends by a seal r, after the tongues q of the band Q have been engaged with it. In another form, the cap and band are formed integrally from a single blank, and remain attached at the part of their circumference opposite to the tongue.
