Abstract

14,733. Donkin, J. Aug. 17. Games imitating billiards, croquet, &c.-Relates to improvements in apparatus, such as are described in Specification No. 24,202, A.D. 1893, for playing billiards, croquet, &c. on lawns or floors. The board or "table" is preferably composed of wood blocks, which may be covered with a carpet, but level turf or asphalt may be used, or slate slabs covered with billiard-table cloth. The "table," which may be hexagonal or otherwise, is surrounded by a frame consisting of inclines A and boards B, as shown in Fig. 2. The inclines may be of woven wire stretched on frames, or of wood or other material: they are preferably hinged to the boards B, so as to fold up when not in use. The boards may be fitted with cushions C of rubber &c. The spaces between adjacent parts of the frame form "pockets " ; they are preferably bridged by arches E, Fig. 3, and may be fitted with nets &c. The head G of the mallet employed is mounted on wheels, on the axis of which it can turn to spike the ball high or low. The ends of the head may be differently shaped, and a detachable handle H provided, which can be inserted in either of two holes g, as shown in Fig. 7. The same result can be obtained by the use of a hinged or pivoted handle, as shown in Fig. 8. The ends of the mallet head may be covered with leather &c., like a billiard cue. The mallets may be used for playing croquet or other games.
