12,297. Russell, B. July 7. Flexible - diaphragm pumps; piston pumps. -The diaphragm 20 is secured between the inwardly-directed flanges 17 of the casing. These flanges are continued to form the barrel 18, in which work the loose-fitting convex pistons 26, between which the centre of the diaphragm is compressed. The two parts of the barrel are rounded at 21, to prevent cutting of the diaphragm. The casing is formed with annular chambers 29 communicating at the top and bottom respectively with delivery and suction boxes 9, 12 fitted with non-return valves. Holes 28 in the pistons prevent the existence of undue pressure between the pistons and diaphragm. The pump may be worked by hand or power.
